MOHOLOHOLO

Moholoholo is a wildlife Rehabilitation centre in Pretoria, South Africa and is situated 448 km away from Johannesburg near a small town called Höedspruit at the base of the gorgeous Mariepskop. Mariepskop is part of the Drakensberg mountain range that stretches over more than 1000 km from the Eastern Cape Provience in the south, spreading northwards to Höedspruit before heading to Tzaneen in the west and becoming the Wolkberg Mountains, before being renamed as the Strydpoort Mountains at Mokopane.

As well as being a rescue and rehabilitation centre, Moholoholo is also an educational facility and acts as an ambassador for the reintroduction of native species back into the wild. It has a highly successful Serval breeding project which has reintroduced over 160 Servals back into areas where they had become extinct and they're also actively involved in researching the behaviour and movement of certain species, such as; Leopards, and a number of species of Vultures that are monitored daily at the 'Vulture restaurant'.

Shelley was priviledged to spend 3 weeks here as a student volunteer at the beginning of her around the world adventure, which was nowhere near long enough to fully immerse herself in the centres work, but she thankfully found enough time to capture the local residents in all there finery:
